We are a collaborative network of state-level abortion advocacy non-profits working to identify cross-state challenges, to invest in shared opportunities, and to support each other through the ups and downs of this critical work.
Who We Are
The State Abortion Access Network (SAAN) is a collaborative network of state-level abortion advocacy organizations seeking to flip the historic dynamic of top-down approaches to state-based and local work. We know that community-led solutions and long-term investments are essential for creating a more effective and sustainable movement.
With federal protections overturned, access to abortion—and all reproductive health care—will depend even more on state and local action. Municipal elections, community mobilization, and state legislatures will be determining abortion access.
In this pivotal moment, building state power so that people closest to the problems are defining the solutions is the best pathway to unlock long-term change for abortion access and reproductive freedom.
We are a ground-up network designed to modernize the structure, tone, and nature of the local abortion access movement. SAAN fortifies member organizations with operational and administrative infrastructure; funds state-based innovation, resilience and diverse leadership development; and facilitates relationship building, knowledge sharing, and strategic collaboration.
